We are excited for our second planting day.  In the two months since you were last out there the rain has come and the bark has begun to break down, quite quickly actually.  Digging in the park last week Scott and I were excited to see how wet the soil was under the mulch compared with exposed patches nearby.  Clover has also sprung up, in some places lifting the mulch clear of the ground.  This is good though because clover is a great source of nitrogen. For our second day we’ll be building an herb spiral.  An herb spiral is a raised spiraling planting bed that hosts a diversity of herbs – drought tolerant on the top and water loving near the bottom.  The herb spiral will be the focal point of the “cultivation garden” near the front of the park.  Here is a link to learn more about herb spirals:

Our design is also moving along and we’re excited to show it off when we meet.  Due to the success of the first mulching we will also be spreading more mulch near the back of the site, so please bring tools and wheel barrows if you are able to.

When: January 24, 9am
Where: Dirt First Park (click here for map)
Admission: Free
We look forward to see you all out there!  Please feel free to bring friends and forward this email along. Peter and Scott
